Faculty Assistant Professor of Music and Director of the Choral and Vocal Studies Program
Haverford College invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty appointment as Assistant Professor of Music and Director of the Choral and Vocal Studies Program for students at Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges. The position will begin in July of 2018.
Responsibilities include: conducting two choirs, a 30-voice chamber choir and a 120-voice symphonic choir performing major works with orchestra; supervising the private study voice program, that involves 20 students and 3 teachers; teaching a yearly performance class in the art song literature or some other course commensurate with the applicant’s particular skills or research interests; and advising senior voice majors in the preparation of their thesis recitals. These responsibilities are the equivalent of a full-time teaching load at Haverford.
Haverford and Bryn Mawr are small liberal arts undergraduate colleges, and the choirs are heavily cross-registered with students, faculty, and alums from both campuses as well as members from the local community. Most student choir members are not music majors. For further information about the program see https://www.haverford.edu/music/applied-music-study/choral-study
Qualifications: DMA in Choral Conducting required by time of appointment. In addition to artistic distinction, evidence of a successful research program in an allied musical field, such as composition, theory, or musicology and experience conducting choirs in a liberal arts setting are highly desirable. The successful candidate must appreciate the contribution of all musical disciplines in fostering a comprehensive and balanced music curriculum, and actively seek connections with other departments and programs within the College.
