Faculty Part-Time Lecturer in Environmental and Urban Studies

The Social Sciences Collegiate Division at the University of Chicago is now accepting applications for one or more part-time Lecturers to teach in the Environmental and Urban Studies major during the 2022-23 academic year. The Environmental and Urban Studies major is the undergraduate program in the Committee on Environment, Geography and Urbanization (CEGU). It encourages interdisciplinary approaches to the study of environment, geography, and urbanization grounded in theoretical frameworks and research methods from the social sciences and humanities, complemented by approaches from environmental sciences, urban planning and design, and urban science. Lecturers will teach between one and four classes over two academic quarters, depending on curricular needs, including one section of “Making the Natural World: Foundations of Human Ecology” in Winter 2023 or one section of “Human Impact on the Global Environment” in Spring 2023. Full course descriptions are available in the College Catalog: http://collegecatalog.uchicago.edu/thecollege/environmentalstudies/.  Syllabi for the courses will be provided but the Lecturers will be encouraged to create their own course material based on interests and experiences. Responsibilities include preparing and teaching a seminar-style course, holding regularly scheduled office hours, preparing and grading assignments, and attending staff meetings.

This position requires an advanced degree in an area relevant to environmental social sciences or environmental sciences and experience teaching at the college level. Experience teaching in an area relevant to environmental science or studies is preferred.
