South Central College, with campuses in North Mankato, and Faribault, Minnesota, invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice President of Student and Academic Affairs. Reporting to the President, the Vice President is designated as the Chief Student and Academic Affairs Officer of the College. The Vice President will lead, evaluate, and enhance the college’s student and academic programming and services, including the library and curriculum and faculty development; support and promote innovation on behalf of student success; develop and implement master planning for the Student and Academic Affairs unit; build strategic budgets and explore resource development; employ strategic course scheduling strategies including the implementation of new instructional technologies; lead and support college accreditation efforts; and build partnerships to support student and academic programming and collaboration.

While South Central College (SCC) was founded in 2005, it is the product of a long and rich history dating back to 1946. Today’s institution is a comprehensive community and technical college within the 37-member Minnesota State Colleges and Universities. Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), SCC awards certificates, diplomas, and degrees that prepare students for careers in a variety of settings. The college serves more than 4,700 students. Almost half of the students are full-time and 47 percent are female. Students of color comprise approximately 20 percent of the student body.

The North Mankato campus is located in the Minnesota River Valley less than two hours from Minneapolis-Saint Paul. The Faribault campus is just 25 miles from the Twin Cities. Both have low costs of living and an abundance of recreational, sporting, and cultural opportunities.

The Vice President will lead, direct and support instructional units in the planning, development and evaluation of curriculum, services and programs; develop credit course offerings and the total schedule so that classes are available to meet student demand and that faculty are assigned effectively; develop annual budgets for academic affairs and student services divisions; provide supervision, evaluation and professional development for the administrative, faculty and support staff assigned to instructional, academic support, and student services units; develop new programs which meet the needs of public and private agencies, in addition to expanding joint programs and articulation agreements with other educational institutions; provide leadership to the overall planning and decision-making process for the campus, and interactions with the greater community.

Minimum qualifications include: master’s degree; experience in higher education instruction; experience in supervision and management of faculty; experience in higher education curriculum development, assessment, and evaluation; and executive experience working in a unionized college or university environment. Preferred qualifications include: doctoral degree in education or a discipline taught at the college; five years of relevant experience; record of leading innovation and organizational change as it relates to academic programs and career and technical education; demonstrated success in building and maintaining partnerships; knowledge and commitment to fulfilling the mission of a community and/or technical college that is student centered; ability to delegate, collaborate, and promote consensus in accomplishing the college’s strategic plan; demonstrated commitment to diversity and success in addressing the challenges and opportunities inherent in a diverse environment; and ability to create trust, teamwork, cooperation, and cohesion among faculty, administrators and staff.
