Administrative Director of Center for Collaborative Data Science

The UCLA Department of Statistics seeks an Academic Administrator VI to direct the departmental Center for Collaborative Data Science (CCDS).

The CCDS serves as the “data hub” for the department, and a Director is required to seek external and internal clients both to provide paid projects to be carried out by graduate students and pro bono projects to be carried out by undergraduate students in the Statistics 140XP and Statistics 141XP capstone courses. The CCDS Director will be the lead statistical consultant and will supervise the consulting work of graduate students, perform statistical consulting, seek clients, delegate projects to the appropriate people within the department, maintain a budget, and teach courses. In particular, the Director will:

  • Grow the CCDS so that it is self-sustaining by increasing the number of paid clients.
  • Recruit and manage an CCDS “staff” of paid graduate student researchers
  • Coordinate and triage consulting projects among pro-bono undergraduate capstone projects and paid graduate student and faculty projects
  • Be responsible for on-time delivery of products and client satisfaction
  • Project-manage undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty to coordinate project completion
  • Coordinate and organize on-site visits for students and clients
  • Work closely with the directors of the undergraduate major capstone course by providing clients for student teams
  • Work closely with the self-supporting Master of Applied Statistics (MAS) program to help recruit industry partners and place MAS students with internships
  • Work closely with faculty and staff to grow the CCDS
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate students in statistical consulting and methods courses
  • Work with faculty to support MS theses
  • Supervise graduate students working in the CCDS
  • Work with faculty and staff to organize the annual ASA DataFest competition

Candidates should have a PhD in Statistics or a related field and experience in statistical consulting across a wide variety of fields. The position requires someone with an entrepreneurial disposition and the ability to communicate well with people from a variety of backgrounds.
