The Grace Abbott School of Social Work (GASSW), a part of the College of Public Affairs and Community Service (CPACS at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), invites applications for a tenured position at the Associate Professor or Professor level. This is a full-time, benefits eligible position with an anticipated start date of August 15, 2022.

The special focus of this newly endowed faculty chair position will be child welfare education and administration within the context of social work practice to best serve children and families in Nebraska. The successful candidate will lead research and programmatic efforts as it relates to issues of child welfare and development by focusing on children, families, and community-based organizations that serve at-risk families and their children. Additionally, this position will promote research and scholarly activities that examine ways to capitalize on strengths and assets of human beings in ways that enhance education, families, and/or relationships with special emphasis on underserved cultures and people. This position also requires teaching social work courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.  The successful candidate will hold a five-year renewable appointment as the John E. Christensen Community Chair in Child Welfare, in the GASSW.   

The GASSW offers BSSW and MSW degrees and has strong commitments and investments in research and teaching in several areas including global engagement, children and families, mental health practice, and gerontology. The school offers dual degrees with Public Administration, Public Health, and Criminology and Criminal Justice.

Required Qualifications:   Applicants must possess an MSW or equivalent from an accredited CSWE program.  Additionally, an earned doctoral degree or other appropriate terminal degree is required.

Preferred Qualifications:   A strong record of research and experience in multicultural education, including teaching using various modalities such as online, that merit appointment as an associate or full professor are preferred.  A demonstrated record of significant community engagement with diverse populations is also preferred.  Evidence of ability to build collegial working relationships with colleagues across multiple disciplines and campuses is important. Additionally, a record of obtaining external funding is preferred.
