Position Description: The Department of Anthropology in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School seek to appoint a tenured professor in Medical Anthropology. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2026.
Over the last 40 years, the program in Medical Anthropology at Harvard University has grown into a multi-faculty, cross-school initiative that has offered programming at the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels. The successful applicant will hold joint appointments at Harvard Medical School and in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and will oversee the MD/PhD and MA programs in Medical Anthropology and teaching and advising in the undergraduate Anthropology and Medicine track.
Candidates are expected to engage in active, ongoing research that interrogates the relations between ethnography, medical knowledge, social theory, and public health policies. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a range of course offerings in the fields of medical anthropology and social medicine, from General Education classes and introductory lectures for undergraduates to graduate seminars, as well as advising graduate students at the MA and PhD levels.

Basic Qualifications: Candidates are required to have a Doctorate degree.
Additional Qualifications: Demonstrated strong commitment to teaching, advising, and research is desired. Candidates should also evince intellectual leadership and impact on the field and potential for significant contributions to the department, University, and wider scholarly community.
